It's March Already?!!
Well the sunshine is making a good effort to stick around but it looks like our late run in the summer stakes is already at an end!

I hope the courses we have on offer over the coming month will help you to get/stay focused on your business goals. Afterall, a clear plan of attack makes all of those day to day decisions easier (except maybe whether to take an umbrella, woolly scarf or sunhat when you walk out the door)!

Manufacturing Series
Advanced Warning!

While there are no dates tied down yet I wanted to give you the heads-up on our Manufacturing Series.  It will definitely be completed before the end of June so I guess that means it needs to start by early May so we can fit everything in.

So... until I can give you more specifics (such as dates) take a look at the following summary and let us know if you are interested.

To qualify for this course you must have been actively trading for over 2 years. If requests for attendance exceed available places, places will be allocated based on duration and size of operation. To gain the most from this series you are likely to be facing the following issues:

·  considering the next step (how to expand)
·  some or no exporting, but looking for growth
·  struggling to maintain or grow profitability & cashflow
·  looking to improve processes
·  unsure of how to fund growth
·  not good at monitoring day to day performance

This series covers 9 weeks of intensive analysis and 12 months of monitoring and works through 6 fundamental elements of business. This is not THEORY, this is like ‘Boot Camp’ on getting the operational elements of a manufacturing business right. Workshops in the series are ½ day sessions [workshops]. After each workshop individuals can meet up with a coach to look at how they can implement in their business the ideas discussed.

The structure is as follows:

1. State of the Nation
2. Activity Based Performance Analysis
3. Marketing to Your Strengths
4. Promotion
5. Sales Management
6. ERP Systems 101
7. Lean Manufacturing - Part 1
8. Lean Manufacturing - Part 2
9. Funding Growth

Tourism - Reflect on the Journey
End/ begin the season with a review of your tourism business journey.  How equipped and prepared are we for the year ahead?

Developing and running your business is like being on a journey.  Like any journey it will include ups and downs, highs and lows, achievements and disappointments.  This is particularly true of of the tourism industry with distinct seasonal variations and dependance on unpredictable things like the weather. There will be times when it will be necessary to move faster and times when there will be a need to slow down, maybe even to change course or to take time to reflect on what is going on around you.

Most journeys require a final destination or goal and some sort of plan to help us get there - adequate preparation often saves time and money later on.

We need to plan carefully who is going to accompany us on our journey and identify the equipment and materials we will need to assist us. We need to travel in robust, multi-terrain vehicles. Our business journey is no different.

This pair of workshops will look first at the fuel and supplies we need on board to give our journey the chance of continuing success and then we will look at ways of charting our journey to ensure it goes in the direction we want and helps us reach our desired destination.

Chris has developed this pair of workshops to help tourism business to take stock of where they are and reflect on the next stage of their journey before heading into the next season.

Workshop dates

Tuesday 5th April, Wellington Regional Chamber of Commerce, L9 Geni Tower, 109 Featherston Street, 5.30-8.30pm

Monday 11th April, The Biz Centre, Grd Floor Radio New Zealand House, 155 The Terrace, 5.30-8.30pm

Building Progress at Biz
Well...there definitely is progress being made it's just that there are still powertools galore and the occasional dust storm to contend with.  I can report that we have new walls where there were none and big open (messy) space at the front and the painter has started so we can't be too far away!
