SME Stocktake Highlights Industry Success
The nation is taking a snapshot of itself this month with its five-yearly Census - an event that has provided us at The Biz Centre with a good excuse to conduct a stocktake on our industry.

What we’ve found makes for interesting reading: New Zealand is predominantly a nation of small firms, with small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) making up the majority of all enterprises in New Zealand.

Did you know that:
  • 86.0% of enterprises employ five or fewer full time staff
  • 96.8% of enterprises employ 19 or fewer full time staff?
Not surprisingly, the majority of SMEs are found in the larger centres, with the highest numbers located in Auckland, Wellington and Canterbury. In 2003, there were 33,204 SMEs in Wellington out of a possible 36,994 businesses in the region – a staggering 89%.

While those statistics date from 2003, we’ll keep you posted with the latest results from the Census when they become available. In the meantime, there’s plenty on offer at The Biz Centre this month, including a wide array of workshops targeted towards helping you kickstart your business into greater success. Read on!

Kick Ass Sales for Creatives
Ever found it’s not the person with the greatest talent who makes the most money, but the one who understands how to deal with people and how to present the value of their skill the best?

This workshop will teach you how to make the most of your creative energies to grow your business. Designed for the creative entrepreneur, Kick Ass Sales for Creatives focuses on fundamental sales skills, such as making contacts, gaining appointments and asking the right questions.

We’ll show you how to define the value of your unique skill in a way that creates interest and action, and teach you how to turn that into tangible business success.

Tuesday, 7th March, 2.30-8.30pm at The Biz Centre, Ground Floor, Radio New Zealand House, 155 The Terrace, Wellington.

Contact Renee to book your place.

Are you Ready to Export?
Interested in exporting but unsure where to start? This workshop is for you if you have limited export knowledge but can see potential in the international marketplace.

Are you Ready to Export? is designed to give an overview of the export process while providing an assessment of what is required to take on the world.

We’ll answer your questions and throw a few your way, such as:
  • why export, and is an international audience the best marketplace for your product?
  • what are your local and international growth opportunities?
  • how far and how wide do you want to aim?
We’ll also provide you with a few practical techniques, including:
  • an overview of the realistic side to exporting, such as freight, finance, pricing, packaging, foreign exchange, documentation and terms of sale;
  • an assessment of export strategy, including research, marketing and promotion;
  • individual follow-up coaching, available after the workshop.
Wednesday, 15th March, 5.30-8.30pm and Wednesday, 22nd March, 5.30-8.30pm at The Biz Centre, Ground Floor, Radio New Zealand House, 155 The Terrace, Wellington.

Contact Renee to book your place.
